Graduate Training - Ready to Work Program

At Adrians we prefer to recruit our professional team members as graduates and train them in the firm systems and culture.

Since 2008 we have developed a graduate training program that each new graduate receives and which we believe is unique amongst small and medium sized firms.

The design of the program is to overcome the deficiencies of the traditional “on the job” training offered by most small firms. This method occurs by necessity due to a lack of resources or commitment to the training process and involves breaking up jobs to give new graduates those parts of the job they might be able to cope with in order to at least achieve some production from the graduate in the early stages. This comes at the cost of an understanding of the work and context and usually results in a period of 1 or 2 years before the graduate can be expected to complete jobs and make a meaningful contribution to team performance.

The Adrians Ready to Work Program consists of an intensive 2 week internal course that exposes the graduate to all aspects of the operation of the business services team.  The course commences on the first day of employment with us. Modules include;

  • Firm systems and tools
  • Tax Agents Portal and ATO communication
  • Introduction to business structures in the real world
  • Introduction to Self Managed Superannuation
  • BAS preparation and GST reconciliation and work papers
  • Tax preparation using the Elite tax software
  • Accounts preparation using the XPA general ledger and reporting system
  • Work paper preparation and file compilation and referencing

The latter modules are worked on live client files under direct supervision of a client manager or senior accountant.

We generally recruit 2 graduates into the program on each occasion for maximum value from the program for both the firm and the graduates alike.

Our experience with the program is that graduates emerge confident with their new skills and ready to make an immediate contribution to the team.  We also find that the professional development and achievements of each graduate having gone through the program is significantly accelerated compared to the traditional “on the job training” still offered by some firms.

This accelerated learning program is also of benefit when the graduate commences the CA program as it is most likely they will have been doing work at a higher level than many of their contemporaries.

The program is run according to our intake either in July or January each year.  Enquires about the program can be directed to a Partner at any time during the year.
